Air Slovakia’s Punjabi owner, Harjinder Singh Sidhu, landed at Amritsar’s Raja Sansi Airport recently with nearly 100 passengers.
The flight came in from Cologne in Germany. Passengers were thrilled to experience the Punjabi fare onboard, including Slovakian airhostesses articulating fluently in Punjabi.Senior Akali leaders from Amritsar warmly welcomed the passengers at the airport. A team of Bhangra dancers greeted the passengers with a performance on their arrival.
Air Slovakia now has three planes-two Boeing 757s and one Boeing 737. This fleet would soon be increased to nine planes.
While talking to Media Men, Sidhu said that an order for six Boeings has already been placed, and these aircraft would fly to different destinations in the world. Sidhu also said that he had plans to provide complete Punjabi experience in the airline to attract more passengers of Punjabi,Indian and NRI origin.
Sidhu is a typical rags to riches story. He says he used to sell Air Slovakia’s tickets before becoming its financial director and then its owner. He says he migrated to London when he was 16 and worked in a Ford company. After performing a few odd jobs he brought his first petrol pump and eventually went on getting more and became the owner of more than 30 petrol pumps.
“I knew the shortcomings of my flying company, but I am committed to improving the airlines. Now, I am here to stay,” he said, adding proudly that he has brought the airlines from the seventh to the second position in the past few weeks’ of its operations.
Riqbal Rocky Singh, Sidhu’s son, and a director in the compnay, said there is a need to take care of passengers and provide them with quality services. He said there are plans to start flights from Barcelona, Glasgow, Athens, Paris and Amsterdam to bring the Punjabi population in those areas back to their roots.
Kristina, a passenger, said it was nice to taste Punjabi food.
“It was little more spicy for me,” she said, adding that airlines should add more movies and music during its flights”, she said.
Bhupinder Singh , a passenger from the UK, described the flight as a wonderful experience. He was particularly pleased to converse with a air hostess in Panjabi language..
