The mystery shrouding the death of Manipuri boy, Lairen Mayum Allestran Singh (16), who was expelled from Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, on November 14, took a new turn today when doctors at GH-16 found a blood clot in his brain.
The post-mortem, which was conducted today after his father Nirodosai Singh reached Chandigarh, has raised doubts over the manner in which Lairen died. Nirodosai also met school principal Jaswinder Singh and expressed his angst over the alleged “irresponsible” behaviour of the authorities.
He said, “i am taking my son’s body home. He had come to Chandigarh a few months back… i had never thought i would come here to take back his body… We are arranging a coffin, so that the body could be airlifted to Manipur. School authorities never told me that they were expelling my son.”
Lairen’s body, which was recovered from Sector 15-16 dividing road yesterday morning, bore no any external injury but the blood clot indicates foul play. According to senior doctors, the clot could not have been formed unless Lairen was hit hard on the head. The police have started investigating places where Lairen stayed ever since he was expelled.
“Though the post-mortem report is not yet conclusive, as the doctors have sent the viscera for chemical examination, the clot has forced us to probe into the matter deeply,” said inspector Puranchand, SHO of Police Station-11.
Shanta Singh, former president of Manipur Students’ Association, said, “We met the school authorities today and expressed our protest over the manner in which Lairen was expelled. if he used to drink, why were his parents not informed? if they wanted to throw him out of the school, they should have at least informed his father.”
Despite repeated attempts, the school principal was not available for comments
