The Janata Dal (United) will support the candidates of Akali Dal-BJP combine in February 13 assembly elections in Punjab, party president Sharad Yadav today said.
“We will support the candidates of SAD-BJP alliance in the coming assembly polls. Even though we do not have mass base in Punjab, we are in a position to defeat the Congress party,” Yadav, who was here to attend election rallies of SAD- BJP alliance, told reporters.
Asked about the role of the JD(U) in case SAD-BJP alliance comes to power, Yadav said they were yet to decide on it.
Criticising the Amarinder Singh government, Yadav said, “whenever Congress party comes to power, the prices of essential commodities rise exorbitantly due to its anti-people policies”.
“The Congress party in Punjab has been a complete failure during last five years,” he said.
On Special Economic Zone issue, Yadav claimed the SEZ policy would be detrimental to the country in three ways - “it would create scarcity of foodgrain, it will result in huge revenue loss and finally it would divide the country economically”.
