Economic terrorism’ threatening Punjab: Sidhu
Trying to draw a parallel with the days of Punjab militancy, BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu today said “economic terrorism” is threatening the state and accused Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of scuttling the SEZ project for Amritsar.

“Economic terrorism is now threatening Punjab. Its industry is in a bad shape, unemployment is rampant and many have started looking at other states,” the Amritsar MP said addressing a BJP protest rally here against alleged misrule of the Congress government.

He said the industry of neighbouring states like Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir “enjoyed tax holidays” but the Chief Minister failed to get incentives for the state. “Now, even Haryana has marched ahead of Punjab”.

“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced setting up of a Special Economic Zone in Amritsar, but Captain (Amarinder Singh) spared no efforts to scuttle its development,” he said.

Sidhu alleged that the state government “owed nearly Rs 200 crore to the Amritsar Municipal Corporation” and that the BJP had taken up the matter in the court.

The cricketer-turned-politician and talk show host also criticised the Centre with regard to the Right to Information, which was “touted as a great leap forward. What to talk of a common man, even an MP does not have the right to information under the present regime”.

He claimed that Amarinder Singh “will pack his bags like Lalu Prasad did from Bihar” and challenged him to a debate on all issues concerning the state.
