The heat wave continued to cast its grim spell over the northern belt today as Amritsar sizzled at 43.1 degrees Celsius and the mercury maintained a rising trend in several places in Punjab and Haryana.
The maximum temperature hovered between 2-7 degrees above the normal range in the plains of Punjab and Haryana, the Meteorological Centre here said.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a seasonal high of 43.1 C (7 degrees above normal), while Patiala was a couple of notches lower at 42.1 C (4 plus) and Ludhiana was 41.8 C (5 plus).
Karnal in neighbouring Haryana settled at a high of 40.6 C (4 plus) and Ambala was 40.1 C (2 plus), while Chandigarh touched the 40-degree mark (4 plus).
The weather office has predicted dust or thunder storms with light to moderate rains at isolated places in the two States over the next two days.
