Chandigarh Admin. calls people to pay homage to Martyrs

Chandigarh Administration has called upon the residents of UT to join and pay their homage to the Martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the struggle of India’s freedom.

To commemorate the Martyrs Day, two functions would be organised at Chandigarh War Memorial, Bougainvillea Garden, Sector 3, Chandigarh tomorrow i.e. January 30.

One in the morning would be led by His Excellency, the Administrator UT and Governor of Punjab, Gen. (Retd.) S. F. Rodrigues and one in the evening would be led by Indian Council of Child Welfare, UT President, Mrs. Jean Rodrigues. Led by Adviser to the UT Administrator, Pradip Mehra, the officers and employees of Chandigarh Administration will observe two minutes silence and pay homage to the Martyrs at UT Secretariat building, Sector -9.

A Wreath Laying Ceremony and Candle Lighting Function will be organized at Chandigarh War Memorial. His Excellency, the Administrator UT and Governor of Punjab, Gen. (Retd.) S. F. Rodrigues will lay wreath at 11.00 AM. The Army Commanders and decorated retired officers and citizens will also lay wreaths at the Chandigarh War Memorial.

All the Head of the Departments/Offices/Corporation/ Institutions/Boards of Chandigarh Administration and the Registrar of Punjab & Haryana High Court have been asked to observe two minutes’ silence at 11.00 AM at the blow of siren in the entire city. The commencement and termination of two minutes’ silence will be indicated by ‘All Clear’ sirens at 10.59 AM and 11.02 AM respectively.

Administration has also asked all the workshops and factories to stop work and where practicable and traffic on the roads should come to a stand still for two minutes. Chambers of commerce and Industry have also been requested to ensure proper observance of the Martyrs Day by their member and affiliated association and organisations.

Candle Lighting ceremony will be held at the Chandigarh War Memorial in the evening from 5.30 PM to 6.30 PM. Indian Council of Child Welfare, UT President, Mrs. Jean Rodrigues, will light candle at 6.00 PM.

Citizens of the city and the surrounding areas will also join the function to pay their homage to the martyrs for their supreme sacrifice, while defending the nation. Chandigarh Administration expects all the citizens to join the functions to maintain dignity and solemnity of the occasion.
