Sans Cong, Panchkula MC members take oath

While the BJP and INLD councillors reached the SDM office in Sector 1, Panchkula, for the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected MC councillors, no one from the Congress party turned up for the function. The oath ceremony was attended by nine councillors of the INLD and eight of the BJP. Sub-Divisional Magistrate V K Dahiya administered the oath of office to them.

As for the Congress, under a pre-planned move, they did not attend the ceremony. “It was a joint move and as our MP, Kumari Shelja, was busy with the session and we all wanted to go together. Therefore we decided not to attend it. But as this will hardly have any impact, we all would be taking the oath during the second meeting that would be called by the SDM soon,” said Om Prakash Devinagar, Congress District president.

The other two parties, BJP and INLD, congratulated each other after the oath-taking ceremony. The ceremony was followed by raising of slogans by the INLD workers and residents of the Azad Colony of Sector 20 against the Congress government and Deputy CM , Chandermohan. Also present during the protest were the wife and son of ‘abducted’ councillor, Gautum Prasad.

“We have still no idea where Prasad is and we are worried about his well-being. If not done anything, we would again file a complaint with the Panchkula Police against the Congressmen”, said Kunti Devi, Prasad’s wife.

As for the INLD city president, Manoj Aggarwal, “It was under a pre-planned strategy of the Congress government that the oath taking ceremony was not attended by the Congress councillors. From within they know that the MC elections of Panchkula are going to influence the ones that are scheduled to happen in Gohana, Indri and Adampur on May 22.”
