Denying allegations of irregularities in the recent Panchayat elections in Punjab, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said that there had been “too much exaggeration” of the incidents during the election to 12,081 Panchayats.
Addressing a press conference here Badal said that the SAD-BJP alliance government has passed with gold medals its four tests- election to Municipal Corporation, Block Samiti, Zila Parishad and Amritsar South assembly by-election- since it assumed power last year.
Referring to the skirmishes during the recent elections he said that minor differences among the contestants at the local level could be there “which is a natural process in such poll. It was not government sponsored.” The alliance will organise a thank giving rally at Amritsar on June two, he added.
Badal denied that he had violated the model code of conduct by laying foundation stones of some projects at Bhatinda shortly before the Panchayat elections as the function was in an urban area and the code of conduct was applicable in rural areas where the Panchayat elections to be held.
