A Magnificient unbeaten Century by Sunny Sharma (140 no) enabled Panchkula District to defeat Ambala by 89 runs in Haryana State Inter District Cricket Championship played for Pataudi Trophy being conducted by Haryana Cricket Association at JR Institute of Cricket Technology, Barwala.
Electing to bat first, Panchkula got to a sound start as both the openers Ashish Kukreti (52) and Suraj Bhan (20) played sensibly. Ashish Kukreti specifically was in fine touch playing strokes at loose deliveries. Their partnership came to an end as Suraj Bhan became the victim of Rishab who foxed him in the air with his well flighted delivery.
Skipper Vishal Sahni, joined the company of Ashish Kukreti but could not capitalised the plot as he became the second victim of Rishab. Thereafter Umesh Kaira made same mistake as he gave his wicket to Gaurav Sareen. Loosing three wickets in quick succession Panchkula needed a good partnership and Sunny Sharma took this responsibility as he started with two boundaries releasing some pressure. Thereafter he was non stoppable as none of Ambala bowlers had any answer to his elegant batting. He hit boundaries at his will and was involved in 70 runs partnership with Ashish Kukreti (52).
Playing well Ashish Kukreti competed his half century but soon threw his wicket by playing a rash shot off the bowling of Rishab. Himmat Singh and Sunny Sharma were involved in 133-run unbeaten partnership for fifth wicket in just 18 overs. Panchkula scored mammoth 297 runs in 50 overs after loosing 4 wickets. Rishab claimed 3 wickets for 43 runs.
Chasing a huge total, Ambala got to a flurry start as their openers Varun and Bhanu scored at brisk rate scoring 39 runs in just 3 overs. But some tricky bowling by Jitender Billa (3 for 45) brought Panchkula back as he took two quick wickets. Akshat Kaushik (63 off 54 balls) and Rishab (47 off 64 balls) were involved in a 72-run partnership for fourth wicket. But introduction of spin duo in the form of Ajay Bhardwaj (3 for 11) and Suraj Bhan (4 for 31) did not allow the Ambala batsmen to score freely and they bowled a good line and length. Ambala could reach to a total of 208 in 39 overs.
