The office of an LPG distributor in Phase V was ransacked during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
This, despite a sweet shop located right next to its office and a leading eatery a little distance away. Both the sweet shop and the eating joint are open almost till midnight and the employees of the sweet shop start working from around 4 am.
A night watchman has also been employed in the market, but was found missing after the incident.
Mohali Gas Enterprises owner Anoop Kumar Jain told the police that they closed their shop on Tuesday at 5.45 pm and today around 8.30 am, when his employee Dharamveer came to open the showroom, he was shocked to find both the locks on the shutter missing.
Jain said that cash amounting to Rs 5,000, two LPG stoves with 3 burners each and certain official record were found missing while some records found torn.
The locks of drawers were also found broken with the help of iron rods, Jain said.
The Mohali police summoned fingerprint experts to find clues from the spot but to no avail.
A case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC has been lodged against unidentified persons at the Phase I police station.
