The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) has chalked out a proposal for constructing budget hotels near railway stations. These hotels are on the priority list in Chandigarh and the construction for the same will start within two months.
The hotel, with state-of-the-art facilities, will be constructed on an area of 3,500 square metres, on a public-private partnership model.
The tender for the same had been finalised last year and the hotel has been licensed to Zoom Developers, which is a part of Zoom Enterprises, a Mumbai-based company.
The company has a track record of carrying out projects in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Baroda and Delhi and has worked with various national developers like the Uppals.
Apart from having worked in India, it has projects spread over China, the Middle East, Europe, North and South Americas.
The hotel will have four floors, with a food court and 60 rooms. The entire process of booking rooms will be done through the Internet and will be rented out at controlled prices. A restaurant will also be a part of the hotel. Officials said that the project will not compromise upon the quality and hygiene, considering the matter of controlled prices. Apart from food and lodging, services like cabs and taxis will also be provided to the visitors.
Aneet Dulat, Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC said: “The outbound passengers will have the choice to book a cab or taxi through the hotel authorities. This will spare them of the hassle of looking for a cab or a taxi themselves.”
The project, however, awaits the selection of the execution and controlling body. Dulat adds: “Whether it will be with the railways (Railway Land Development Authority) or the IRCTC, which will execute and manage the hotel, is yet to be decided. Once this is finalised, the construction will start at a full swing.”
