The sangat darshan programmee of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday proved to be a boon to the flood affected farmers of the Mand areas of Sultanpurlodhi as announced ownership rights to the peasants who were cultivating 6000 acres of pond area land owned by the state government.
The farmers became jubilant raised slogans when Badal announced the ownership rights in response to the demands raised peasants of village Takia during the sangat darshan programme of the Chief Minister at village Bharoana in the Mand area of Sultanpurlodhi.
Badal said that the ownership of land would be transferred in the name of cultivators who would deposit rupees three lakh fifty thousand per acre to the State government. The Chief Minister also directed the administration to transfer the land at the collectors rate i.e. rupees three lakh fifty thousand per acre and take six equal instalments from the farmers for the transfer of land.
Deputy Commissioner J M Balamurugan, who was also present at the sangat darshan, told that nearly 2500 families of 37 villages who were under illegal possession of the pond areas land would be benefited with this decision.
Sultanpurlodhi Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) K S Chandi said that the administration would take application from the farmers for the transfer of land.
Badal during his sangat darshan met only the 17 village panchayats of the flood affected villages.
The village panchayat which met Badal include a Bharoana, Tibbi, Chananwindi,Sheikhmanga, Sarupwala, Sherpur Sada, Basti meerpur, Watanwal Kalan, Watawal Khurd, Suchetgarh, Rame, Ahli kalan, Ahlikhurd, Baupur Jadid.
Badal, however, refused to accept the main demands of the flood affected farmers to enhance to compensation of the damaged paddy corps from Rs 5,000 per acre to Rs 10,000 per acre.
He said that the State government was already giving Rs.3500 per acre as its share in the compensation of Rs.5000 per acre.
He held the previous Congress government responsible for the decision of the centre government share of Rs 1500 per acre as it demanded only Rs 2500 per acre as compensation of the damaged crops.
Badal also announced to give Rs 31 crores for compensation and repair of the roads in the flood affected villages. He also gave his nod for a plan of rupees 74 crores for providing irrigation facilities in the flood affected villages.
Badal directed the DC to speed up the disbursement of compensation to the farmers when village Panchayat of village Rame complained that the village had received a cheque of rupees Rs 6700 so far as a flood relief.
Sant Sukhjit Singh Seechewal drew the attention of Badal towards 3000 acres of land belonging to seven villages which was still under three to four feet of flood waters and demanded the pumping out of stagnated water from the fields by putting it into bein.
He also demanded the raising of bundh and construction of concrete road on the bund to avoid any breach.
Badal directed the drainage department to look into the problem.
