Chandigarh: 2 jawans die mysteriously

Two Tricity jawans died mysteriously on Tuesday with one of them reportedly falling to his death from the terrace of his house, while the other was found with a bullet in the neck. According to sources, UT constable Kuldeep Singh, 38, had gone to the terrace of his official residence in Sector 41 at 6pm when he reportedly lost balance and came crashing down. Kuldeep, who received serious head injured, was rushed to PGI but was declared brought dead.

Not ruling out suicide even as no note was found till the filing of this report, Jaswant Singh Khaira, DSP (south) said, “It’s too early to comment as the police are still investigating whether the cop jumped or fell accidentally.’’ Hailing from Sujjanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the deceased, posted at police lines, is survived by wife and two children.

In the other incident, Kamaljeet Singh, an ITBP jawan posted with 37 Battalion at Bhanu Camp in Ramgarh, Panchkula, died of a gunshot wound. His body was kept in the mortuary of General Hospital in Sector 6 for an autopsy to be conducted on Wednesday. Doctors, who said that a bullet had hit Kamaljeet, 40, in the neck, did not rule out suicide. “We will investigate the matter on Wednesday but no case has been registered yet,” said Baljeet, SHO, Chandimandir police station. An ITBP spokesperson, too, told TOI that they could throw more light on the incident only by Wednesday.
