The Shiromani Akali Dal today warned the Congress that the”death knell”had been sounded for the party”not only in Punjab but in the whole of the country”with the announcement of the poll dates.
Asserting that the elections in the state would be completely free, fair and peaceful, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said this”spells the beginning of the end of the discredited UPA regime at the centre that has brought the country to the brink of financial, administrative, moral and political collapse.”
Badal, in a statement, exuded confidence that the SAD-BJP alliance would sweep the elections in Punjab.
“Our security forces are fully competent to handle the poll process. The police in the state is completely de-politicised and will ensure impartial and peaceful elections,”he said.
Shiromani Akali Dal President and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the announcement of the poll dates have sounded the”death knell of the Congress not only in Punjab but in the whole of the country”.
Lok Sabha elections in Punjab will be held in two phases on May 7 and 13.
