After court’s Monday order, BJP councillors meet DC; Rawinder Rawal files appeal seeking stay
Confusion prevailed at the Panchkula Municipal Council office on Tuesday. While Rawinder Rawal said he has 30 days to appeal against the court’s Monday order till when he would remain the MC president, BJP councillors met the deputy commissioner asking him to allow their members to take charge as president with immediate effect.
Rawal, meanwhile, filed an appeal in the court of District and Sessions Judge against the orders of the Civil Judge, Senior Division. The local court, in an order on Monday, had declared the elections of MC president null and void after a BJP councillor filed an appeal claiming that secrecy was not maintained during the elections.
“I have filed an appeal in the court requesting for a stay and quashing of Monday’s orders. Besides, according to Section 273 (4) of the Haryana Municipal Act, there is a provision of filing an appeal within 30 days and till then I will remain the MC chief. If the BJP claims that no secrecy was maintained in the elections, the same might have happened in the MC vice-president’s election which was won by BJP councillor B B Singhal,” Rawal said during a press conference at the MC office in Sector 4. He added that it was in the capacity of MC president that the press conference was held in the MC office.
