The Supreme Court on Friday directed the principal of the Government Medical College, Amritsar, to appear before it on July 17 for failing to comply with its direction to admit a girl student.
The vacation Bench comprising Justice B Sudershan Reddy and J Aftab Alam also directed the college authorities to “forthwith” grant admission to the student, Ruchika Arora.
The apex court was furious at the manner in which the college authorities defied its June 17 direction for granting admission to Ruchika, whose admission was denied for certain inexplicable reasons despite her securing a high rank in All India Entrance Test conducted by AIIMS.
