Tata plans mega project in Punjab

Tata Group, which last week announced plans to set up a manufacturing plant in West Bengal to roll out its Rs one lakh car, is in discussions with the Punjab government for a mega project.

The negotiations with the Tata Group is going on and “we are hopeful that Tata would announce fresh investments for Punjab next month despite the fact it had decided to set up Rs one lakh car project in West Bengal, Punjab Finance Minister Surinder Singla said on Monday.

However, the minister did not disclose the details of the project pending its finalisation.
On the furore over a deal to allot land for Reliance Industries farm-to-fork project, the minister clarified that the company would be offering Rs 16,000 per acre a year for leasing Panchayat land, which have failed to generate even Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 per acre annually.

He, however, said land had not be transferred to Reliance so far and the government was yet to take a decision in this regard.
