The flourishing of new technologies and settlement of foreign companies has left the traditional farmers of Punjab in a financial crisis. Seeing no sign of help from the Government, a number of farmers have committed suicide to put an end to their despair.

Whereas the Government had not taken steps to help these deprived people in the state, it has come to light that the superior authorities of the state of Punjab and India are in fact working in support of the foreign companies which will soon enjoy further establishment in the state.

It is worthy to note that, S. Simranjit Singh Mann, President Shiromani Akali Dal (Amristar), is amongst one of the few political leaders who has taken a stand against the Government for supporting these companies by illegitimate means.

While talking to the press here, S. Mann pointed out that the state government is enacting a process of forcibly acquiring land of small farmers to help institute new industrial projects. It was pointed out by S. Mann that the Reliance Industries and Trident Group of Industries are amongst the companies which will play a large role in these developments.

S. Mann further alleged that the Reliance Industries has provided an aircraft for personal use to Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the Congress Party President, and in lieu of that, Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister, has promised to provide 20 acres of land to the Reliance Industries in Mohali. While bringing it to the attention of the people, S. Mann said that this land in Mohali will be sold at exceptionally low prices. S. Mann also promised that his party will work in favor of the farmers and will never allow such infidelity to be plotted against them.
