Pensioners meet Punjab FM with demands

THE Punjab Pensioners’ Welfare Association has claimed that the Punjab Finance Minister Surinder Singla has agreed for the acceptance of their pending demands, after a meeting between the minister and the association office-bearers led by president B S Gautam, held at Chandigarh on Thursday.

In a joint statement issued here today, the association’s senior vice president Sat Paul Rahi and general secretary D S Bajaj said that the state Finance Minister has agreed to setting up of persioners’ homes at all district headquarters, besides fixing commutation value of pension according to the old formula.

Besides, the minister has also agreed for increased medical allowance for the medical care of pensioners and allowing private treatment of pensioners at government rates, claimed the pensioners’ body members.

The delegation also sought additional pension at the rate of 0.5 per cent for each year, after qualifying service of 33 years, to which the minister assured the pensioners’ delegation.
