The Chandigarh Administration has notified the proposal of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh for simplification of rules and regulations and amendments in water supply bye-laws governing the daily life of citizens.
Besides, Disputes Settlements and Redressal Committees has been formed to sort out disputes/litigations relating to water bills and other related matter. The amendments would result in more transparency, efficient and quick disposal of cases relating to water charges.
The earlier system of sanctioning of water connection was lengthy and used to take five to six days to get a water connection sanction.
Now water connections up to 15 mm size, which is approximately 99 per cent of the total water connection applied with the MC, will be sanctioned by the respective SDE himself.
Regular domestic, commercial, industrial and institutional connections with size of 20 mm to 40 mm and all types of temporary water connections will be sanctioned by the respective Executive Engineers.
The application proforma for the release of water connection has also been simplified. The time taken for sanctioning of domestic water connection will now be reduced to less than half compared to earlier period.
The minimum rates for commercial premises shall be Rs 770 per month for booths dealing with trade of fast food/dhabas etc., Rs 550 per month for SCOs, SCFs dealing with general trade, Rs 880 for SCOs/SCFs dealing with water consuming business. Hotels, cinemas, shopping halls, etc., will have to pay Rs 2,200 as minimum rates per month.
For disputes redressal and settlement of water bills, divisional level, circle level, chief level and commissioner level Dispute Redressal Committees (DRCs) have been formed which will act as Reviewing Authority and Appellate Authority for different level of disputes.
