Rana Sugars to produce Ethanol at Amritsar plant

Chandigarh-based Rana Sugars Ltd., a joint venture of Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Ltd., on Friday said it is diversifying into the production of ethanol, at its distillery plant in Amritsar, Punjab.

The company will add an ethanol manufacturing unit in this plant, which has a capacity of 60 KL per day.

The company decided to diversify after the decision taken by the Government allowing the mixing of 5 per cent of ethanol with petrol.

The ethanol unit is to be set up with marginal modifications in the existing distillery plant.

“With the implementation of the Ethanol project, the profitability of the company will be improved considerably,” a company statement said.

The company began its crushing operation in 1993.
